Parents Council 2012/2013

Our main source of income is from voluntary contributions made by the parents, we collect €5 (voluntary) per child on the day of the Parent Teacher meeting.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all the parents who over the years have contributed to this fund.  With this money we are able to assist in all the previously mentioned projects.

The effectiveness of the Parents Council is enhanced by the involvement of as many parents/guardians as possible and their ongoing active participation in Council activities.

All Parents/guardians are welcome to contibute in any way possible to the activities of the Parents Council, Colaiste Mhuire, Mullingar.

Functions of a Parents Council:

The Parents council is the structure through which parents/guardians in a school can work together for the best possible education for their children.

The Parents council works with the principal, staff and board of management to build an effective partnership of home and school.

Educational research on the involvement of parents in schools shows that children achieve higher levels when parents and teachers work together.

The Parent’s Council has undertaken a number of different initiatives over the past few years.

This is a brief outline:

  • Table Quiz/Party Evening, to provide a social gathering for both parents and students
  • Presentations by speakers, such as John Lonergan and Gerry Duffy
  • Two Drug Awareness Seminars
  • Involvement in the development of all School Policies, such as:
  1. Grievance Procedure
  2. Disciplinary Procedure
  3. Complaints Procedure
  4. Admission Policy
  • Collaboraton and liason with the Student Council
  • Involvement in the development of the Transition Year Project
  • Funding or part funding of numerous project such as:
  1. Purchase of Defibrillator
  2. Musical Instruments
  3. Overhead Projector
  4. T.V. for the Recreational Room
  5. Combi. T.V. sets for classrooms
  6. Sports Equipment
  7. Contribution towards the Talent Show
  8. Contribution towards the German Student Exchange
  9. School blazers
