Huge numbers attend athletics.
On Wednesday September 26th, fifty three students across all years attended the Westmeath Schools cross country competitions in Belvedere. The numbers reflect the growing interest in the sport and many Coláiste Mhuire men were on the podium at the races's end. Twenty first year students took part and Ross Killillea was placed second at the races culmination. The second year team was carrying a few small injuries but still gained an impressive return with three top ten finishes. Seasoned athletes Adam Treanor and Colin Smith battled another competitor for the pole positions in the third year/TY race. Adam eventually finished in first place while Colin picked up a bronze medal. Senior entrants Brian Martin and David Mills also picked up the gold and bronze in their respective race.
On Wednesday October 3rd, twenty four students headed to Tullamore for a cross country event exclusive to first years. Ten students finished in the top twenty. Coach Mr D. Lawler was hugely impressed with the efforts of the group and is confident that they can improve their performance with the appropriate application to training. Above and below are photos from both events mentioned.
