The School Canteen

cbs-272.jpg

The school canteen provides a safe, well-managed, and student-centred food service, supporting students’ wellbeing while also encouraging positive, healthy choices during the school day. The canteen plays an important role in supporting students’ energy levels, concentration, and overall engagement with learning, while also offering flexibility and choice for families.

Lunchtime Provision

A range of hot meals and freshly prepared sandwiches is available from the canteen Monday to Thursday at lunchtime (1.15 pm). This provision ensures that students have access to balanced meal options during the school day, supporting their nutritional needs and overall wellbeing in a structured and supervised environment.

Pre-Ordering System

To support an efficient lunchtime experience and to minimise queuing, a pre-ordering system operates each morning from 8.15am.

Parents and students can:

  • Visit https://schoollunches.ie and register

  • Select MullingarCBS as the school

  • Browse the menu and place orders in advance

This system allows students to collect their lunch promptly, reducing congestion in the canteen and enabling them to make the most of their free time.

Bringing Lunch from Home

Students are very welcome to bring their own lunch to school. For added convenience, microwaves and toastie machines are available in the canteen area, allowing students to heat food safely and comfortably. This flexibility supports family choice while ensuring that students can eat in a supervised and appropriate setting.

Morning Break Service

A selection of snacks and drinks is available during morning break at 11am, providing students with an additional option during the school day and supporting sustained concentration through morning classes.

Wellbeing and Healthy Eating

The school canteen plays an important role in promoting student wellbeing and healthy lifestyle habits. The availability of warm meals, balanced food options, and appropriate snacks supports students’ physical wellbeing and contributes positively to their ability to engage in learning. Through ongoing consultation with students and parents, the school seeks to encourage informed and healthy food choices while ensuring that the canteen service continues to meet the needs of our school community.

Catering Provider and Oversight

The canteen service is provided by David Smyth Catering Ltd. The service is regularly reviewed and evaluated in consultation with our student leadership teams and Parents’ Council, ensuring that student and parent feedback directly informs the ongoing development and quality of the service.
