Coláiste Coding | Coláiste Mhuire
Coláiste Coding is a lunch time coding club which allows students with a passion for ICT to demonstrate and exhibit their work in this area, and make new friends and connections in school. It presents students with the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and immerse them in the world of coding. The club runs at lunch time once a week and is a platform for students to learn the language of computer coding. Starting with a crash course in scratch programming, students work through lessons together in a collaborative environment. These lessons in scratch programming, while increasing technology skills, will allow students to gain skills such as communication, innovation, leadership and team work.
What exactly is computer coding? Computer coding is what makes it possible for us to create websites, apps and computer software. It is the language of computers and the internet, and is now a major part of almost everyone’s lives.
These first second and third years are embarking on a journey to discover the world of computer coding. Who knows, we might have the next Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg in our midst.
With a greater emphasis on STEM subjects and the increasing job market in the scientific and technological sectors emerging worldwide, our Coláiste coding participants will have a head start on the competition.
In 2017/18 our school earned the right to become one of only 40 schools in the country to pilot Computer Science as a leaving Cert subject. This offers our students a chance to turn something enjoyable into a points earner in their final second level exam.
